Afghanistan: 10 Killed in Flood Caused by Landslide
At least 10 people were killed after a landslide broke the banks of a natural dam causing it to flood in Panjshir province of Afghanistan.
Kabul [Afghanistan], July 12 (ANI): At least 10 people were killed after a landslide broke the banks of a natural dam causing it to flood in Panjshir province of Afghanistan.
According to ToloNews, the incident occurred at 1am on Thursday in Has-e-Awal district of the province.
ToloNews quoted the deputy provincial governor Mohammad Amin Sediqqi as saying, "In one village over 400 houses were either destroyed or damaged."
"Two districts in the province have been cut off", adding "the number of casualties may rise," he further said.
ToloNews quoted an official as saying, "An ice cap on a nearby mountain melted and triggered the deadly landslide, which in turn caused the flood."
Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) has sent rescue teams to the area for search and rescue operations. (ANI)
