Bhubaneswar, Dec 15 (PTI) Odisha recorded 218 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, taking the tally to 10,52,145, while the COVID-19 death toll mounted to 8,439 with reports of two more fatalities, the health department said.

On Tuesday, the state had registered 175 new cases and a fatality.

Khurda district, where Bhubaneswar is situated, reported 117 COVID-19 infections, while Cuttack reported 15.

Twenty-eight children were among those infected, the health bulletin said.

One patient each from Khurda and Keonjhar districts succumbed to the pathogen.

According to official data, 53 other COVID-19 patients have died due to comorbidities so far.

Odisha now has 1,925 active cases, and 10,41,728 people, including 192 in the past 24 hours, have recovered from the infection.

The state has conducted 61,764 sample tests for detecting COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and the positivity rate is 0.35 per cent, the bulletin said.

Nearly 2.85 crore people have received the first jab of the coronavirus vaccine in the state, and around 1.8 crore beneficiaries have been fully vaccinated, it added.
