Hyderabad, Jan 17 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi were among dignitaries who paid homage to Mukarram Jah, the titular Nizam VIII of erstwhile Princely State of Hyderabad, here on Tuesday.

The mortal remains of Mukarram Jah, who passed away in Turkey on January 14, were flown to the city today.

The body was kept at Chowmahalla Palace where Rao paid floral tributes, an official release said.

The Chief Minister prayed to the Almighty for Mukarram Jah's soul to rest in peace and also consoled the bereaved family members, it said.

Owaisi also visited the Chowmahalla Palace and offered tributes, AIMIM sources said.

Born in 1933, Mukarram Jah had moved to Turkey and was residing there.

It was his desire to be laid to rest in his homeland, according to a statement from an office of Mukarram Jah on January 15.

It had said the body would be taken to the Chowmahalla Palace after reaching Hyderabad. After completing the required rituals, the burial would take place at the Asaf Jahi family tombs here on January 18.

Chandrasekhar Rao, who condoled the death of Mukarram Jah, directed officials to conduct Jah's last rites with the highest State honours in recognition of his social services in the fields of education and medicine for the poor as the successor of the Nizam.

Mukarram Jah was born to Mir Himayat Ali Khan alias Azam Jah Bahadur, the first son of Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of the Princely State of Hyderabad before it was merged with the Indian Union in 1948.
