Jharkhand: Police Demands CBI Probe in Child Trafficking Case

Additional Director General (ADG) Law and Order Jharkhand, RK Mallik on Wednesday requested for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)-led probe in child trafficking case.

Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], July 11 (ANI): Additional Director General (ADG) Law and Order Jharkhand, RK Mallik on Wednesday requested for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)-led probe in child trafficking case.

He said, "Requested state government for a CBI inquiry in this issue, also requested that all accounts of Missionaries of Charity and five of its associate organisations should be seized. We have found the records of 121 children sold by them."

Two nuns of Missionaries of Charity were arrested on July 5 on charges of trafficking underage tribal girls.

Members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Ranchi and the police interrogated the nuns at the premises of Missionaries of Charity, "Nirmal Hriday" on July 4, following which an FIR was lodged on grounds of trafficking underage tribal girls.

The Child Welfare Committee of the UNICEF is probing the matter.

The CWC in the recent past has been constantly monitoring the situation at the Missionaries of Charity. (ANI)
