Odisha Cop Arrested for Demanding Bribe, Suspended

An officer of the Odisha Police was arrested and suspended from duty on Friday in Malkangiri district for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.

Bhubaneswar, Jul 26 (PTI) An officer of the Odisha Police was arrested and suspended from duty on Friday in Malkangiri district for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.

DGP R P Sharma suspended Ranjan Kumar Sahoo, inspector-in-charge of Malkangiri police station, after he was caught by anti-corruption sleuths while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a college director on Thursday.

Sahoo had allegedly demanded the amount from Bidyut Charan Dash, who is an accused in a fake certificate case, to minimise the quantum of his offence, while submitting the chargesheet to court, police said. AAM ACD
