Patna, May 12 (PTI) Promising weightlifter Sairaj Pardeshi of Maharashtra hogged the limelight, breaking three youth national records en route to the 81kg gold medal on the ninth day of the Khelo India Youth Games here on Monday.

Pardeshi's effort was special. In the 81 kg category, he broke records in snatch (140 kg), clean and jerk (172 kg) and total lift (312 kg), leaving Andhra Pradesh's M. Tarun (287 kgs) and Uttar Pradesh's Aayush Rana (264 kg) in his wake.

It also helped Maharashtra to stay on top of the medal tally with 35 gold medals, followed by Karnataka and Rajasthan.

The athletics competition began at the Patliputra Sports Complex here and four meet records already tumbled.

Jithin Arjunan (Tamil Nadu) leapt to a new mark in the long jump as his 7.65m erased the record of 7.42m created by Aryan Choudhary of Delhi in Panchkula, 2022.

Uttar Pradesh's Kadir Khan set a meet record in the under-18 400m boys' heats.

Khan clocked 47.67 seconds to erase the meet record held by Kerala's Abdul Razzak (48.34 sec) set in the Pune Games in 2019.

New meet records were also set in boys' discus throw (Hansraj Dhayal of Rajasthan 63.18 metres) and boys 110m hurdles (Saif Farooq Chafei of Maharashtra, 13.48 seconds).

Bihar's Alka Singh won a gold in girls Shot Put with her second attempt that measured 14.73m to share some of the gloss.

Saif Farooq Chafekar won the boys 110m hurdles with a new meet record of 13.48 seconds.

In 100m hurdles, Maharashtra's Shourya Ambure won the first gold medal of track events in this competition with a timing of 14.11 seconds.

Maharashtra's Rohit Shivaji Binnar set the new record in boys 3000m with a timing of 8:29.16, bettering the previous record set by Madhya Pradesh's Vikas Kumar Bind in 2024.

Kerala were the biggest movers on the medal table on this day — from 11th overnight to sixth.

The southern state flexed its muscle in the kalarippayattu competition where states like Chhattisgarh and Jammu & Kashmir have also made an impression.

Kerala won all three kalarippayattu gold on offer for a total of four so far. Overall, Kerala have eight gold, one less than Madhya Pradesh at fifth.

Jammu and Kashmir won their first Khelo India Youth Games kalarippayattu medal since their gold in 2021.Nitin Kumar won the bronze in the boys' chuvadukal individual event to break the dry spell for the northern state.
