As Tamil Nadu prepares for the upcoming Assembly elections on April 23, 2026, over 5.67 crore eligible voters are being urged to confirm their presence on the state’s electoral rolls. To facilitate a seamless voting experience, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has highlighted several digital tools that allow citizens to verify their registration and download digital identification through official portals.

With polling day fast approaching, officials emphasize that having your name on the electoral roll is the mandatory requirement for casting a ballot.

Three Methods to Search the Electoral Roll

The ECI "Search in Electoral Roll" portal (electoralsearch.eci.gov.in) offers three distinct ways for voters to confirm their registration:

• Search by EPIC Number: Users can select "Search by EPIC," choose Tamil Nadu as the state, and enter the unique alphanumeric code printed on their Voter ID. After entering a captcha, the system will display the voter's details and specific polling station.

• Search by Personal Details: For those who do not have their EPIC number handy, the portal allows searches using personal information. This includes the voter’s name, date of birth, gender, relative’s name, and constituency.

• Search by Mobile Number: Voters with a mobile number registered in the electoral system can select "Search by Mobile." After entering their number and the required captcha, an OTP is sent for verification, which then reveals the linked voter information.

How to Download the Digital Voter ID (e-EPIC)

In addition to the physical card, voters can access a digital version of their identification, known as the e-EPIC. This secure PDF version is valid for voting and can be stored on mobile devices.

To download the e-EPIC, voters should visit the National Voter Service Portal (NVSP) at nvsp.in or use the official "Voter Helpline" mobile application. Users must log in using their EPIC number and registered mobile number to generate and save the document.

Procedures for Missing Names

If a search yields no results, it indicates that the individual may not be registered or requires a correction in their data. The Election Commission recommends:

1. Form 6: Used by new voters for inclusion in the electoral roll.

2. Contacting Officials: Voters can reach out to their local Booth Level Officer (BLO) or the district election office for immediate assistance if their name is missing.
