India WIN! KL Rahul manages to propel India past the finish line, hitting a 4,4, and 6 in the second last over, with Men in Blue needing 12 off 12. Rahul, along with Washington Sundar, remained unbeaten on 29 and 7, respectively, as India won the IND vs NZ 1st ODI 2026 by four wickets and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Chasing 301, India were helped with contributions from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, who scored 84 and 49, respectively. Kyle Jamieson was the standout bowler for New Zealand, claiming four wickets. The second IND vs NZ ODI 2026 will be played on January 14 in Rajkot.

11 Jan, 21:20 (IST)

OUT! Harshit Rana departs after playing a cameo knock of 29 off 23. Rana did all the scoring in his partnership with KL Rahul, but perished trying to take on debutant Kristian Clarke. Clarke claimed his maiden ODI wicket as well. Washington Sundar is out in the middle. Harshit Rana c Mitchell Hay b Kristian Clarke 29(23)

11 Jan, 21:05 (IST)

India, from a position of strength, have managed to hand the momentum to New Zealand, by losing three wickets in quick time. All will depend on KL Rahul and Harshit Rana. India, do, have Washington Sundar on the bench, but will eagerly want this pair to guide Men in Blue past the finish line.

11 Jan, 20:53 (IST)

This has been a terrible passage of play for India, who have lost three wickets from seven balls to Kyle Jamieson. From 233 for 2, India have slumped to 242 for five, with Jamieson picking wickets of Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shreyas Iyer. Harshit Rana and KL Rahul are in the middle with India still 56 away from the target.

11 Jan, 20:37 (IST)

OUT! Virat Kohli's old archnemesis Kyle Jamieson gets the Indian batter out. Kohli looked solid during his 93-run knock, and misses out on a hundred by seven runs. Kohli charged down the track, but could only chip the ball to captain Michael Bracewell at mid-off. Kohli c Michael Bracewell b Jamieson 93(91) [4s-8 6s-1]

11 Jan, 20:26 (IST)

This partnership has deflated New Zealand's spirits in the field, with Indian batters scoring runs quite freely. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer have added 70 runs in 11 overs without much fuss. Kohli is nearing yet another ODI hundred

11 Jan, 19:43 (IST)

OUT! Adithya Ashok is pumped following his second ODI wicket. Shubman Gill, on the other hand, is shocked seeing Glenn Phillips pulloff yet another remarkable catch. Gill went for the drive, but failed to keep the ball on the ground. Gill c Phillips b Adithya Ashok 56(71)

11 Jan, 19:33 (IST)

FIFTY! Shubman Gill brings up his fifty, an up-and-down knock by the Indian captain. Gill took 67 balls to reach his landmark. Virat Kohli has scored his 76th ODI half-century, taking merely 59 deliveries to reach the landmark. During his knock, Kohli also became the second-highest run-getter in international cricket, while reaching the 28,000-run mark the quickest.

11 Jan, 19:16 (IST)

Since the fall of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli has taken command of the innings for India, adding 77 runs for the second wicket with Shubman Gill in no time. Kohli is nearing yet another half-century, while Gill is playing a rather calm and composed knock.

11 Jan, 18:45 (IST)

Since the fall of Rohit Sharma, India's run-rate has picked up, with Virat Kohli dealing in boundaries. So far, in his small knock, the ace batter has scored four fours, while Shubman Gill has managed just one. Pressure will be on the Kiwi bowlers to stop the Indian batters from getting away.

11 Jan, 18:33 (IST)

OUT! Kyle Jamieson gets first breakthrough for New Zealand, and in-form Rohit Sharma has to walk back after scoring 26 off 29. Sharma went for the release shot over the cover region, but could not find elevation, handing a simple catch to the Kiwi captain. Rohit c Michael Bracewell b Jamieson 26(29)

11 Jan, 18:20 (IST)

This has been a steady start for India, with Rohit Sharma doing most of the scoring. Kyle Jamieson has been on-the-mark mostly, and has come to picking up a wicket on a few occasions.

11 Jan, 17:59 (IST)

As expected, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will open the batting for India. Both will look to play the initial overs with calmness, assess the pitch, and then get a move on. Kyle Jamieson opened the bowling for the Kiwis and looked in control, apart from that one wide in his over.

11 Jan, 17:24 (IST)

Lower-order hitting from Kristian Clarke and Kyle Jamieson has ensured New Zealand reach the 300-run mark, which always gives a psychological advantage to any team. Prasidh Krishna, despite picking wickets, gave away plenty in the death overs.

11 Jan, 17:13 (IST)

OUT! And Daryl Mitchell's sublime knock comes to an end, and Prasidh Krishna has the last laugh after getting smacked for 14 runs in three balls. Mitchell played the heave and missed the ball, which struck the batter on his pads. Mitchell misses his ton by 16 runs, having made 84 off 71. Mitchell lbw b Prasidh 84(71)

11 Jan, 16:51 (IST)

OUT! Mohammed Siraj has his second wicket of the innings, and Zak Foulkes has to take the long walk back. Foulkers hung back and pushed his bat, only for the ball to get an edge and hit the off-stump.  Foulkes b Siraj 1(2)

11 Jan, 16:48 (IST)

OUT! All the credit has to go to Shreyas Iyer, a super fielding effort, that sees the Kiwi captain Michael Bracewell head back into the pavilion. Bracewell called for the second-run but Iyer's throw was swift and clear at the non-strikers' end.  Michael Bracewell run out (Shreyas Iyer) 16(18) [4s-1]

11 Jan, 16:34 (IST)

FIFTY! As usual, Daryl Mitchell has found runs against India, and this time too, coming at a crucial juncture for New Zealand. This is Mitchell's sixth fifty-plus score in his last 10 ODI innings. The Kiwi all-rounder took just 51 balls to reach his 16th ODI half-century.

11 Jan, 16:20 (IST)

OUT! Prasidh Krishna, into his second spell, manages bowl a near-perfect delivery to dismiss Mitchell Hay. Hay's footwork went nowhere, as the batter missed the ball completely, only to see his bails knocked over. Mitchell Hay b Prasidh 18(13) [4s-2]

11 Jan, 16:03 (IST)

OUT! Another Kiwi batter bites the dust; the destructive Glenn Phillips has to walk back to the dressing room. Phillips misread the delivery from Kuldeep Yadav and ended up lobbing a simple catch at cover-point. Phillips c Shreyas Iyer b Kuldeep Yadav 12(19) [4s-1]

India National Cricket Team vs New Zealand National Cricket Team Live Score Updates Online: International cricket returns to Vadodara after a 15-year hiatus as India prepares to face New Zealand in the first One Day International (ODI) on Sunday, January 11, 2026.  You can check the India National Cricket Team vs New Zealand National Cricket Team match scorecard here.  The match, hosted at the newly developed BCA Stadium in Kotambi, marks the beginning of India’s white-ball season and serves as a vital platform for several senior players returning to the 50-over fold. Virat Kohli’s Mini Doppelganger Spotted As Star Indian Cricketer Gives Autograph to Kids Ahead of IND vs NZ 1st ODI 2026 (See Viral Pic).

Led by Shubman Gill, who returns to captain the side after an injury layoff, India enters the series as favorites. The hosts boast a nearly perfect 2025 record in the format, marred only by a lone series loss to Australia. All eyes will be on the "Ro-Ko" duo, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who are back in the squad following impressive stints in domestic cricket.

Leadership and Injury Returns

The return of Shubman Gill is the series' primary headline. The 26-year-old captain missed the recent tour of South Africa due to a neck spasm but has since recovered and participated in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Joining him is vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, who has been cleared by the BCCI Centre of Excellence after recovering from an abdominal tear.

Iyer’s return solidifies the crucial No. 4 spot, while the inclusion of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul provides the team with significant middle-order depth. While Sanju Samson remains part of the T20I setup, the ODI squad sees a more traditional alignment with the return of senior stalwarts.

Bowling Reinforcements and Rankings

India’s bowling attack features a mix of experience and raw talent. Mohammed Siraj returns to lead the pace battery in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, who is being rested as part of workload management. Siraj will be supported by left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh and the promising Harshit Rana.

In the spin department, Kuldeep Yadav remains the centerpiece. The left-arm wrist-spinner recently made headlines for receiving a signed jersey from football legend Lionel Messi, but his focus remains on the pitch. He is joined by Varun Chakravarthy, who currently sits at a career-high rating at the top of the ICC T20I rankings and is looking to translate that form into the longer format.

New Zealand’s Youthful Challenge

New Zealand arrives in India under the leadership of Michael Bracewell. The Black Caps are navigating a transition period, with several senior players like Mitchell Santner slated to join only for the subsequent T20I leg. The visitors will rely heavily on the experience of Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, and pacer Kyle Jamieson to guide a relatively inexperienced squad.

Despite the youth of their side, the Kiwis carry momentum from a successful home summer and a historic Test series win in India late last year. They will look to exploit any early-season rustiness in the Indian camp on what is expected to be a high-scoring Vadodara track.
