India News | Delhi HC Limits Plea Seeking Supply of Videography and CCTV Footage of Election to Jurisdiction of Delhi Only

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday limited a petition seeking direction for supply of videography and CCTV footage recorded in the process of the conduct of the recently concluded Lok Sabha Elections from all over the country to the jurisdiction of Delhi only.

New Delhi [India], July 16 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Tuesday limited a petition seeking direction for the supply of videography and CCTV footage recorded in the process of the conduct of recently concluded Lok Sabha Elections from all over the country to the jurisdiction of Delhi only.

Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav limited the petition to the jurisdiction of High Court of Delhi. The bench said that the petitioner should approach concerned District Election Officers (DEO) of respective states and Union Territories.

Election Commission of India can not supply the material asked for by the petitioner.

The bench said that it can entertain the petition in respect of seven parliamentary constituencies of Delhi which falls under the jurisdiction of High Court of Delhi.

The bench asked the petitioner, Mehmood Pracha, to place on record the applications he moved before the concerned DEOs in respect of Delhi.

He is also asked by the court place on record the manuals, rules, order of Election Commission of India (ECI) as well as the frequently Asked Questions.

The matter has been listed on August 5 for further hearing.

The High Court is dealing with a petition moved by advocate Mehmood Pracha who fought Loksabha elections from Rampur Loksabha seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Petitioner submitted that he had written to all the District Election Officers posted throughout India, requesting that he be provided with the copy of the entire videography and CCTV footage pertaining to the recently concluded Lok Sabha Elections.

It is also submitted that a direction may be passed for the supply of the videography and CCTV footage of election process under the Manual on Electronic Voting Machine, starting from theFirst Level Checking and up to the sealing and storage of the EVM-VVAPT machines in the warehouses after conclusion of the counting process.

The plea was opposed by the senior advocate Maninder Singh on behalf of the ECI. (ANI)
