Pune, Apr 26 (PTI) A 35-year-old man here in Maharashtra set a woman ablaze over a dispute following which he also suffered burns and died, while the woman was battling for life in a hospital, police said on Tuesday.

Another person also sustained burns when he tried to intervene during the incident which took place late Monday night in a tailoring shop owned by the woman in Somnath Nagar of Pune, they said.

"The deceased, identified as Milind Nathsagar, used to work with the woman, Bala Janing (32), at her shop, but she had removed him from the job eight days ago. Angry over this, Nathsagar went to the shop around 11 pm, poured petrol on the woman and set her on fire using a lighter," Chandan Nagar police station's inspector Sunil Jadhav said.
"Nathsagar also received burns and later died. The woman suffered 90 per cent burns. She was admitted to a hospital and her condition is serious," he said.
Another man, who ran a mobile shop nearby, rushed to the spot to intervene. He also sustained 35 per cent burns and was undergoing treatment in a hospital, the official said.
A case was registered against the deceased under Indian Penal Code Section 307 (attempt to murder), the police added. SPK
