Mumbai, May 9:  Facebook's recent announcement to launch a new dating app comes as a significant threat an competition to Tinder - the famous dating app. Tinder is the most common app used by youngsters looking for partners. However, the Match Group Inc which owns the dating app dismissed the predictions.

The company's Chief Executive Officer Mandy Ginsberg said, "People don’t want to mix Facebook and their dating lives, also the revenue will be $1.6 billion to $1.7 billion in 2018, up from its previous projection of $1.5 billion to $1.6 billion."

The official statement of the company reads, "Profit will be higher, mostly because more people are signing up for a new premium feature on its flagship Tinder app than the company expected." The statement comes after Facebook announced that it would come up with its dating app, after that in the stock market the match Group company stock fell by 18 percent upon the announcement, as per the earlier reports.

Also, it's believed that since Facebook already has data needed to present its users as dating prospects, with the new app, users will have an easier time filling out a profile. They will not have to pay high fees needed to subscribe to a dating site. This app serves as another powerful way to harness FB’s massive data trove.  Ginsberg responded to the claim by stating that his company is stepping up with efforts to wean away Tinder users from using their Facebook accounts to logging on to the dating service.

In 2017, Facebook introduced an alternative to Facebook-login, and the number of users who signed up through the social network has declined significantly in North America. "When given this choice, 75 percent of new users opted not to use Facebook," said Ginsberg.
