Bengaluru, March 29: A tragic mass suicide attempt fueled by mounting financial debt has left two family members dead and two others in critical condition in a village on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The incident occurred over the weekend when 55-year-old Asha and her 34-year-old daughter, Varshita, died at the scene. Asha’s son, 32-year-old Mohan Gowda, and his 11-year-old nephew were discovered with severe injuries and remain in critical condition at a local hospital.
Preliminary police reports indicate that the family was under extreme pressure from moneylenders. Prior to the incident on Saturday evening, Mohan Gowda reportedly recorded a video message detailing the family’s intent to end their lives due to their unmanageable debt. He sent the footage to relatives, who immediately rushed to the residence. Upon finding the front doors locked, they entered through the back of the house to find the victims. According to investigators, the sequence of events suggests a coordinated but violent attempt to end the family's struggle with debt. Police allege that Mohan Gowda slit the throats of his mother, sister, and nephew before attempting to take his own life in the same manner.

The investigation is currently focused on the moneylenders mentioned in the family’s final communication. Harassment by informal lenders is a recurring issue in the region, often leading to desperate measures when interest rates become unsustainable.
Authorities are currently analysing the video sent by Mohan to identify individuals who may have illegally pressured the family. Forensic teams have processed the house, and further statements from extended family members are being recorded to build a clearer picture of the family's financial history.
Both Mohan and his 11-year-old nephew were transported to a nearby medical facility immediately after being discovered. Hospital sources confirm that both remain in intensive care following emergency surgery. Their recovery is considered vital not only for their health but for providing a firsthand account of the events to the authorities.
