Bengaluru, June 27 (PTI) Five alleged diesel thieves were arrested today after a group of locals thrashed them by tying them to a pole in Vijayapura district, with a video of the incident going viral.

The five hailing from Madhya Pradesh were caught by residents of Tidagundi village allegedly stealing diesel from vehicles and later arrested, superintendent of police Prakash Nikam said.

When asked about villagers beating the five, he said a case would be registered against those who take law into their hands.

In the video, the five were seen being beaten up by the locals.

Police said the five were working migrant labourers and resorted to stealing diesel after their employer did not pay them salary and selling it at a cheaper price.
