Chandigarh [India], January 5 (ANI): The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the 328 missing 'Saroops' case has arrested two persons and conducted search operations at 14 locations across Punjab and Chandigarh, seizing electronic devices and incriminating financial records, officials said on Saturday.

According to an SIT spokesperson, during the searches, the SIT seized seven mobile phones, three tablets, two laptops, one storage device, along with incriminating financial records and documents. The seized electronic devices will undergo forensic analysis.

The spokesperson added that the seized financial documents are under scrutiny, as payments made by companies associated with several individuals, including politicians, are being examined.

Additionally, a total of 16 people have been named in the FIR registered at Police Station C-Division, Commissionerate Amritsar. Of them, two accused have reportedly died, while investigations are underway against the remaining 14.

So far, Satinder Singh Kohli and Kanwaljit Singh alias Kawaljit Singh have been arrested. Kanwaljit Singh was arrested on Saturday. He was working as an assistant and allegedly played a direct role in serious irregularities related to the maintenance and handling of religious scriptures, including unauthorised preparation and storage, the spokesperson said.

The SIT conducted searches at 14 locations, including two in Chandigarh, eight in Amritsar city, and one location each in Gurdaspur, Ropar, Tarn Taran and Amritsar Rural.

The SIT said investigations are being conducted systematically and meticulously, and that more searches and arrests are likely as the probe progresses. (ANI)
