The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, will be organising Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations at Parade Grounds, Secunderabad, to commemorate the liberation of Hyderabad from the rule of the Nizam on this day in 1948.
As part of the celebrations, paramilitary and defence forces will conduct a parade following the unfurling of the National Flag. G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Coal and Mines, will be the chief guest at the event.
The celebrations will also feature cultural programmes highlighting the historical struggle for Hyderabad's liberation.
In 1948, the first Home Minister of India, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, unfurled the Tricolour after Hyderabad merged with the Indian Union. The erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad, which was under Nizam's rule, was annexed into the Union of India following a military action codenamed 'Operation Polo', which culminated on September 17, 1948.
