Balaghat (MP), Dec 3 (PTI) A woman was mauled to death by a tiger when she was working in an agriculture field in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh, an official said on Saturday.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at Nandgaon village under Waraseoni forest range when the woman, identified as Laxmi Uike (25), was working in the agricultural fields, said B R Sirsam, Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) of the forest department.

After the people present there raised an alarm, the tiger disappeared into the forest. The woman's body, which was recovered from the spot, was sent for post-mortem, he said.

After the incident, the villagers have been asked not to go near the forest.

Nandgaon sarpanch Vijay Sahare said a tiger has been roaming in the villages located in vicinity to the forest since last one month.
