Popular singer MS Rajeshwari, 86, breathed her last after suffering from liver-related illness for long. After beginning her career in the year 1941, Rajeshwari went on to lend her voice for many a popular songs in multiple films. She continued to sing until the 90s. One of her most popular songs is from the 1987 Mani Ratnam film Nayagan. Rajeshwari had also sung various songs in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

How could one forget Rajeshwari's voice behind “Naan Siricha Deepavali” number composed by Ilaiyaraaja! She had also given her voice for an array of composers such as Viswanathan-Ramamoorthy and Shankar-Ganesh among others. Her song from Kamal Haasan starrer Ammavum Neeye Appavum Neeye is quite popular. To mention other few, Rajeshwari will always be remembered for her evergreen songs such as  “Mahan Gandhi Mahan”, “O Rasikum Seemane” and “Paapa Paadum Paatu”.

She rendered songs which consist of solos and duets in all of the AVM Studios early productions Nam Iruvar, Rama Rajyam, Vedhala Ulagam, Vazhkai, Jeevitham, Or Iravu, Parasakthi, Gunasagari, Penn and Chella Pillai. She predominantly sang in the 1940s and 1950s, while during the 1960s till 1990s, she was only sought in songs that voice needed for small children.

Films such as Kaveriyin Kanavan, Kaithi Kannayiram and Engal Selvi are the earlier ones where she recorded her voice for child artists. Since 1964 till the 1990s she was only sought for playback for child artists. Indian Express reports that Rajeshwari’s mortal remains have been kept for public viewing in Chrompet, Chennai. The funeral is expected to take place on Thursday at 4:30 pm.
