Jammu, July 26: Marking the 19th anniversary of Kargil war on Thursday, the nation remembered its brave heroes on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. The Central Command of the Indian Army celebrated the Kargil Vijay Diwas through a series of functions. In his address at the Dras War Memorial in Jammu and Kashmir, Ranbir Singh, GOC, Northern Command said the India Army is fully prepared to take on any challenge along the actual line of Control and the Line of Control.

"On a number of occasions there have been reports that People's Liberation Army of China carried out transgressions in various areas along Actual Line of Control but such transgressions took place in areas where we've different perception of Actual Line of Control", Singh said.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the sacrifices of the Bravehearts, saying that the nation will never forget the fearlessness with which the soldiers gave a befitting and unforgettable reply to the intruders. “On Kargil Vijay Diwas, I bow to every valiant soldier who fought for India till the very last breath. Their heroic sacrifices inspire us. India will never forget the fearlessness with which our courageous soldiers gave a befitting and unforgettable reply to the intruders,” he tweeted.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed on July 26 every year to mark the successful conclusion of the war with Pakistan in the Kargil-Drass sector of Jammu and Kashmir in 1999. To recall, India emerged victorious in the Kargil conflict with Pakistan this day. The battle took place between India and Pakistan during May-July, 1999 and the conflict was triggered after Pakistani soldiers managed to occupy key positions on the Indian side of the Line of Control in Kargil sector. It had officially come to an end on July 26, 1999.
