A property dispute in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district turned fatal on Sunday after a man allegedly shot dead his mother and younger brother following an argument over ancestral land, police said. The incident took place in the Baberu area on eve of Mother’s Day and has sent shockwaves through the local community, as reported in TOI. According to police officials, the accused, identified as Rajkishore Mishra, allegedly opened fire on his 60-year-old mother Shanti and his younger brother Devidin, 35, during a heated dispute linked to the division and sale of family property. Both victims died on the spot.

Dispute Linked to Ancestral Property

Police said tensions had been brewing within the family over ancestral land. Preliminary investigations suggest the accused objected to the proposed sale of the property and demanded an equal distribution of proceeds among the brothers. The incident reportedly occurred behind the Baberu tehsil premises during the afternoon hours. Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal said officers reached the scene soon after receiving information about the firing. The bodies were later sent for post-mortem examination.

Accused Absconding, Search Underway

Police said the accused fled the scene after the shooting and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him. A case has been registered and multiple teams have been deployed for the investigation.
