Chandigarh, April 27: In two separate incidents today, a fire destroyed 1500 acres and 200 acres of standing wheat crop, in Jalandhar and Moga respectively. However, the exact cause of the fire is still not known. No casualty was reported yet. It was not the first incident when the wheat crop was destroyed by fire. On April 23, wheat crop spread over 100 acres of land in three villages of Sri Muktsar Sahib district was destroyed in the fire. The fire incidents were reported from Tamkot, Bhoondar and Marar Kalan. In another incident, Over 90 acres of wheat crop got destroyed today at Deepewal village in Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala, and other villages. Meanwhile, on April 22, 21 acres of fields in Moga district caught fire destroying a huge quantity of the wheat crop. With the advent of the summer season, these increasing fire incidents have destroyed standing wheat crops worth crores of rupess adding to the miseries of farmers of the state.
