AFG Won by 38 Runs | Afghanistan vs West Indies Highlights of 1st T20I 2026: WI 143/9 in 20 Overs (Target 182)

Afghanistan win by 38 runs! So, a fine win for Afghanistan in the end. West Indies will be disappointed as they failed to fightback and were restricted on 143/9. Ziaur Rahman Sharifi scalped three wickets while spin trio of Mujeeb ur Rahman, captain Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad picked two wickets each. With this win, Afghanistan go one up in the three-match series.

West Indies are now six down with required run rate creeping up. They now need 79 more runs to win off 30 balls with a required run rate over 15. With Matthew Forde in the middle, Windies will have some faint hope.

Halfway through and West Indies have lost half the side. Mujeeb ur Rahman and Rashid Khan have been excellent with the ball as the duo have shared four wickets between them.  West Indies are in deep trouble with 125 more runs to win from 60 balls.

Good Powerplay for Afghanistan with the ball as well. They have managed to pick three wickets while West Indies struggle to find a partnership. Meanwhile, Amir Jangoo has joined Shimon Hetmyer in the middle as West Indies need 137 more runs in 84 balls.

Just like Afghanistan, West Indies lose a wicket in first over as well. It is Brandon King who departs as Mujeeb ur Rahman picks the first wicket. King was looking to slog as he gets an inside edge onto the stumps.

What a performance by Ibrahim Zadran and Darwish Rasooli. The duo add 162 runs for the third wicket, only to be separated on the last ball and take Afghanistan to a big total of 181 in 20 Overs. Ibrahim finishes unbeaten on 87 off 56 balls while Rasooli scored 84 off 59 balls. Do join us back for Afghanistan's chase.

The Ibrahim Zadran and Darwish Rasooli partnership has now gone past the 100-run mark. These two have completed their respective half-centuries as West Indies' ploy to separate the duo is failing continuously. Afghanistan looking set for a big finish.  

Halfway through and Afghanistan have not only recovered well from early blows but are scoring at a good run rate. The Afghan boys will be looking to double the score from here on and even maybe try to go past 170-run mark with wickets in hand. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Zadran is nearing his half-century. 

End of Powerplay and Afghanistan have done well despite losing two wickets. Sediqullah Atal was the second Afghan batsman to be dismissed. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Zadran and Darwish Rasooli are building a partnership as Afghanistan look to reach halfway mark of their innings without further damage. 

West Indies start on a positive note as Rahmanullah Gurbaz is run out on first ball. Gudakesh Motie with a direct hit from short mid-on catches Gurbaz short of the crease. It never looked like there was a single on offer. Poor judgement this.
