ENG 96/1 at Stumps (Trail By 460 Runs) | Pakistan vs England Highlights of 1st Test 2024 Day 2: Zak Crawley, Joe Root Lead Visitors' Charge

Another day of enthralling cricket comes to an end as England finish with 96/1. Pakistan have done well with the bat, scoring 556 runs thanks to centuries from captain Shan Masood, Abdullah Shafique and Salman Agha. Saud Shakeel also chipped with 82 runs. For England, the best bowler was Jack Leach, who took three wickets while Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse got two each. In response to Pakistan's huge first innings total, England attempted to start on a positive note but Ollie Pope had to depart courtesy of a splendid catch from Aamir Jamal. Zak Crawley and Joe Root then took charge, stitching a  92-run unbeaten partnership. England however have been dealt with a big blow, with Ben Duckett suffering a thumb injury. It will be interesting to see if he can bat in this Test match. 

FIFTY for Zak Crawley! The right-hander has made the most of his return to the Test team with an excellent knock here. He has played some fine shots and will look to make it big with the conditions assisting batting. 

Zak Crawley and Joe Root have steadied the England innings with some good shots. They have shown respect to the good balls while punishing the poor deliveries. Pakistan need another wicket here to bounce back.

Pakistan's 1st innings has come to an end with 556 runs on the board. Joe Root was the last wicket-taker with Abrar Ahmed being dismissed but that dismissal has given England a bit of headache with an injury to Ben Duckett. England will come out to bat shortly.

CENTURY for Salman Agha! The right-hander has batted with a lot of aggression and his third Test hundred has put Pakistan in a strong position. England have been wicketless so far in the third session and there might be a declaration soon. 

The hosts have surpassed the 500-run mark with Salman Agha nearing a century. Pakistan have batted well, especially in this session where runs have come at a quick pace. England will look to take the remaining two wickets or we might also have a declaration in the third session. 

FIFTY for Salman Ali Agha! The right-hander has played with a lot of intent and aggression so far and has got to the 50run mark. He is key to Pakistan finishing with more than 500 runs here.

OUT! Shoaib Bashir dismisses Saud Shakeel with an absolutely beautiful delivery! The left-hander edged the ball to slip where Joe Root ended up taking a good low catch. The post-lunch session has started and Pakistan will be expected to play some big shots and accelerate the scoring rate. England would, on the other hand, want to take the remaining four wickets and wrap up this innings as quickly as possible. 

That's lunch on Day 2! It has been an interesting session of play in Multan with Saud Shakeel standing strong, having scored a half-century and he looks good to make it a big one. England would be happy with their bowling performance, picking up two wickets, one of which included Brydon Carse's first Test victim in the form of Naseem Shah. Pakistan are close to 400 runs and would be hoping to finish their first innings with at least 500 if not more.

FIFTY! Saud Shakeel gets to his fifty in style as he smashes Shoaib Bashir for a boundary with a clean sweep shot. This is Saud Shakeel's seventh half-century in Test cricket. Shoaib Bashir keeps bowling on the fuller length making it easy for the batsmen.

England bowlers are trying hard to get through Saud Shakeel and Naseem Shah as they need early wickets for the advantage. Saud Shakeel is proceeding towards his half-century.

Pakistan will be aiming for a big target. But after a good start will they keep it going or will they perish in front of England? It will be a good day for hosts to keep this Test in control.
