Imphal, Dec 17 (PTI) Normal life was affected in Manipur on Monday by a 24-hour general strike called by the Maoist Communists Party, Manipur (MCPM) demanding renaming of Manipur.
The organisation, however, did not provide any specific name.
The strike passed off peacefully except burning of a two-wheeler by supporters of the shut down at Waithou area in Thoubal district, police sources said.
Buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws were off the roads.
All the business establishments including markets, hotels, motels and entertainment houses were closed during the strike, police said.
An MCPM spokesperson said the general strike was initially called for 48 hours, but its duration was later reduced to 24 hours.
The state government has made elaborate security arrangements in view of the strike.
