Cachar (Assam) [India], September 21 (ANI): Assam police arrested two persons on Saturday after the recovery of 18,000 YABA tablets and 2 kg crystalline methamphetamine worth Rs 15.5 crore in Assam's Cachar district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a post on X.

After getting inputs, Cachar Police intercepted a truck at Banskandi and, upon thorough search recovered the drugs.

Informing about the incident, Assam Chief Minister Himmant Biswa Sarma shared a picture of Assam police with the recovered drugs on social media platform X and said "A successful anti-narcotic operation by @cacharpolice. Based on reliable inputs, Cachar Police intercepted a truck at Banskandi and, upon thorough search, recovered drugs worth Rs 15.5 crore."

"Two people have been apprehended in this connection. Good job," he said on X.

Earlier on September 16, Assam Police recovered 1.20 lakh Yaba tablets and 537 grams of heroin worth 42 crores and arrested three persons in Assam's Karimganj district.

Partha Protim Das, Superintendent of Police of Karimganj district, told ANI that the accused had tried to carry the seized narcotics to the rest of the country through Guwahati.

"Yesterday night we received an input that a vehicle is coming from Champhai district of Mizoram carrying narcotics. Today morning, we intercepted the vehicle at Patel Nagar area under Karimganj police station. After a thorough search, we recovered 1.20 lakh Yaba tablets and 537 grams of heroin from the secret chamber inside the front seat of the vehicle. We have taken two people in our custody," he said.

The accused were identified as Hanif Uddin of the Ratabari police station area and Jabrul Hussain of the Patharkandi police station area of Karimganj district. (ANI)
