Karimnagar (Telangana) Jul 8 (PTI) A Maoist was arrested on the outskirts of Mandamarri village in Mancherial district, a top police official said on Monday.

In a release, Ramagundam Police Commissioner M Srinivas said Mohd Hussain (73) was arrested while moving under suspicious circumstances on the outskirts of Mandamarri village.

Police siezed some wall posters, documents and a mobile phone from his handbag.

Police said Hussain worked as general mazdoor in Singareni Collieries between 1978 and 1981. He then resigned and joined the outlawed Maoist party.

"He also worked as a founder member of SIKASA (Singareni Karmika Samakhya), a frontal organisation of the outlawed Maoist group. Hussian was involved in as many as 28 crimes and jailed several times," the Police Commissioner said.

Police said that the Maoist group central committee member Chandranna had sent him (Hussain) to strengthen the party cadre in the region.
