The final season of the series will only contain 6 episodes. Despite being the shortest season, Game of Thrones has taken a record time to be shot. The cast and crew shot for over 10-months because as per Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington, the makers wanted nothing but perfection.
In this issue of Entertainment Weekly, co-executive producer Bryan Cogman has said that things are going for a drastic turn in season 8. "It’s about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death... It’s an incredibly emotional haunting bittersweet final season and I think it honors very much what [George R.R. Martin] set out to do, which is flipping this kind of story on its head." he said.
