Kolkata, October 23: After Durga Puja, Puja Carnival is organised in Kolkata where idols of 72 award-winning pandals will be showcased and paraded through Red Road. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the brain behind Puja Carnival. Special arrangments are made for the event in Kolkata. This includes the installation of special lights and a separate gallery for foreign delegates. CM Mamata Banerjee and several eminent personalities are expected to attend the event. Kolkata Police also made traffic arrangements for the procession.
Speaking on this year's Puja Carnival, TMC councillor in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Debashish Kumar said: “This year, a total of 72 puja organisers will take part in the Red Road carnival. Arrangements are at par with any international carnival." His Tridhara Sammelani will also participate in the parade.
“The Red Road puja carnival is a great initiative on the part of our state government. But we haven’t participated till date because we have a tradition of holding the immersion on Vijayadashami," Arun Lal, secretary of the Mudiali Club Sarbojanin Durga Puja, told a newspaper.
