NITI Aayog's member, VK Saraswat said that suspension of internet services in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 did not have any significant effect on the economy because it is only used to watch 'dirty movies'. "They (politicians) use social media to fuel protests. What difference does it make if there's no internet in Kashmir? What do you watch on internet there? What e-tailing is happening? Besides watching dirty films, you do nothing," said VK Saraswat. He made this statement in Gujarat's Gandhinagar on January 18. On January 19, Saraswat clarified his statement. Denying the same, Saraswat said that his statement was misquoted. He also apologised to the people of Jammu and Kashmir if his statement hurt their sentiments.
