Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], May 21 (ANI): The Ambedkar statue in Agraharam village at Pithapuram in Kakinada district was allegedly vandalised by unidentified persons on Tuesday, which led to ruckus in the vicinity and disrupted vehicular movement.

The police have assured strict action against the assailants after Dalits demanded justice.

Circle inspector Srinivas said, "Ambedkar statue was vandalised at Pithapuram Agraharam by unidentified persons. Dalits staged a protest on the road, demanding immediate punishment for those who destroyed Ambedkar's statue. This led to a disruption of traffic. Policemen have been deployed at large and diverted traffic to the highway."

Kakinada Rural CI YRK Srinivas held a discussion with the agitators, and the police assured the protesters that the culprits would be caught very soon. The pacified protesters, along with the police, performed 'pal abhishekam' at Ambedkar's statue. (ANI)
