Raipur, Jul 21 (PTI) Chhattisgarh's COVID-19 count rose to 5,731 on Tuesday with the addition of 133 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, while the death toll climbed to 29, as the sample of an elderly woman who died earlier tested positive, a health official said.

A total of 170 patients were discharged in the day taking the total number of such cases to 4,114, he said.

"While 115 new cases were reported on Tuesday, 18 people tested positive on Monday night," he said.

Of the fresh cases reported on Tuesday, 50 were from Raipur, 23 from Kondagaon, eight from Bilaspur, five each from Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Koriya and Narayanpur, four from Kanker, three each from Dantewada and Janjgir-Champa, and two each from Bijapur, Durg and Balrampur, he said.

Besides, one case each came from Bastar, Sukma and Surguja, he said.

A 72-year-old woman from Bhatagaon who was admitted on Monday at Medical College Hospital here died on the same night after which her sample tested positive, he said.

She was suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes and earlier was a tuberculosis patient, he added.

The number of active cases is 1,588, as 4,114 people have been discharged after recovery while 29 have died so far, an official said.

The state, where the infection has spread in all the 28 districts, has recorded around 3,500 cases in the last one month, he said.

With total 1,314 cases, Raipur district tops the tally in the state, followed by Bilaspur (459), Rajnandgaon (453), Korba (364), Janjgir-Champa (339), Durg (326), Balodabazar (310), Jashpur (211), Surguja (181), Balrampur (173), Raigarh (166), Kanker (148), Narayanpur (145), Kabirdham (136), Mungeli (136) Bemetara (109), Bastar (102) and Mahasamund (101), he said.

Chhattisgarh's COVID-19 figures are as follows: positive cases 5,731, new cases 133, deaths 29, discharged 4,114, active cases 1,588, people tested so far 2,54,185. PTI
