Pune, Jul 21 (PTI) The number of COVID-19 cases in Pune district touched 56,416 after 2,403 people tested positive for novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, an official said.

The death toll increased by 55 during this period to reach 1,442, he added.

Pune city accounted for 1,452 of the 2,403 cases, taking its overall count to 37,435, the official informed.

"Pimpri Chinchwad saw an addition of 560 cases and now has a count of 12,557. The number of cases in rural and cantonment areas is 6,424. A total of 805 patients were discharged during the day as well," he added.
