New Delhi, July 9: Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the second largest vehicle manufacturer in India, on Tuesday, July 9, launched its electric sport utility vehicle (SUV). With this launch, the South Korean manufacturer became first in the country to launch a long-range battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the SUV segment.

Priced at Rs. 25.30 lakh (ex-showroom) Kona Electric will boast an all-electric range of 452 kilometres in a single charge (ARAI certified), competing in the list of best long-range e-SUVs along with Nissan's Leaf. Electric Vehicles to Become Cheaper in India, Cars You Can Buy to Avail IT Rebate.

Hyundai Kona Electric SUV Car Specifications:

The car comes with two electric drivetrains- a 39.2 kWh and a 64 kWh battery version, India will get the smaller version (39.2 kWh) which would offer a range of 452 kilometres in a single charge. The new e-SUV can be fully charged overnight with regular power socket, however, with a fast charger, you can achieve 80 per cent charge in just 50 minutes. The car comes in three different models- Eco, Comfort, and Sport.

The SUV features automatic LED headlights, plastic body cladding, LED tail-lights, and roof rails. The e-SUV will be available in 4 solid colour options- white, silver, blue and black. Kona will also be available in a dual tone variant which will cost Rs. 20,000 extra.

According to Seon Seon Kim, managing director of Hyundai Motor India, "The Kona Electric is the ‘The New Normal’ as it is the first long-range green SUV with a capacity of 452 kms in one charge, enhancing the customer confidence in electric mobility. Kona electric has received world wide recognition and will be the most conducive e-vehicle for the Indian market."

The Kona will be sold by 14 dealers of Hyundai across 11 cities and the company is collaborating with India Oil in four cities- Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai- to set up charging stations. All dealers of Hyundai eligible for selling Kona will be provided with chargers in their showrooms as well as service stations.
