New Delhi, April 7: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has announced a scheme for its users where those linking their Aadhaar number with the IRCTC account will be eligible for a lucky draw. The five winners of the draw will be awarded cash prize upto Rs 10,000, along with complete refund of the ticket fare booked for the calendar month in which he/she won the draw.

The lucky draw is aimed at ensuring maximum number of authentications of the IRCTC account with the 12-digit unique identification number. Although the government aims to make the Aadhaar linkage mandatory, the Supreme Court is still hearing a petition which has challenged the government's move.

Here's how the IRCTC lucky draw scheme works

- IRCTC users who have linked their Aadhaar number to the account are eligible to participate. All those booking a ticket for the particular calendar month will be considered for the cash prize.

- 5 PRNs (Passenger Name Records) will be selected for the rewards. The top winner will be awarded Rs 10,000, along with complete refund of ticket fare.

- The name of winner, along with his mobile number, email ID and other details will be displayed on the IRCTC website in the following month.

- Canceled tickets and TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) filed PNRs will not be eligible for the lucky draw. The IRCTC could also voluntarily decide not to reward any particular PNR.

- The IRCTC employees will also not be considered for the lucky draw, despite authenticating their Aadhaar with the IRCTC account.

The scheme will be applicable between January 2018 to June 2018. According to the IRCTC, it could change the rules of the lucky draw or completely retract the scheme after due notice.
