The third day of Navratri 2019 is here. The nine-night Maa Durga festival started on September 29 and will last till October 7. The third day is dedicated to the incarnation of Goddess Durga, who is known as Chandraghanta. The third form of Maa Shakti is also called Chandrakhanda, Chandika or Rannchandi. Navratri, also known as Durga Utsav and Durga Puja in many parts of India, brings people together and is celebrated as a community festival.

One of the most exciting parts of the celebration is to follow the Navratri colour chart that dedicates one colour to each of the nine days of the festival. You can either wear the colour or try incorporating it in your life in some way or the other. A very delicious way of incorporating the various shades of the Navratri days is to cook according to the Navratri colour chart. Just like we shared a recipe for Navratri 2019 day 1 and day 2, here's a Bombay Karachi Halwa recipe for the third day of Navratri that celebrates the colour red. Here's how to make the special halwa at home:

Ingredients

  • Corn flour - 1 cup (100 grams)
  • Sugar - 2 cups (450 grams)
  • Cashew nuts - ½ cup (chopped into small pieces)
  • Pistachios - 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
  • Tartaric Acid - ¼ tsp powder (equal to the size of 2 peas)
  • Green cardamoms - 4-5 (peel and make powder)

Method

  • Take 400 grams (2 cups) of water for making this halwa and add a little bit of cornflour dissolved water into it. Make sure to get rid of all the lumps.
  • Take sugar in a pan and add ¾ cup water into it. Cook until sugar melts and the syrup gets ready.
  • Add cornflour batter in syrup now. Cook consistently in low flame while stirring.
  • Within 10-12 minutes, the batter will get a thick consistency.
  • Now add half amount of ghee and keep cooking.
  • Add rest of the ghee with the help of spoons at regular intervals and cook until all ghee gets absorbed.
  • As the halwa seems to appear shiny add red colour into it and cook well.
  • Add cashews and cardamom powder as well and cook for 5-7 minutes or until it gets a thick consistency.
  • Bombay Karachi halwa is ready. Pour it in any tray or plate and allow it to set. You can garnish it the way you want.

You can easily store the sweet in an airtight container and enjoy it for a few days as it has a long shelf life. However, make sure to cook the batter well but not in a high flame to avoid hardening the sweet.
