A 23-year-old former nursing student killed her parents and herself on Father’s Day at Hong Kong, China and the police says that her skin disease could be the reason behind the attacks. The young girl left a suicide note where she wrote about her long struggle with Eczema, a common disease where patches of skin becomes inflamed, itchy, red, cracked and rough. Authorities further informed that she was struggling with the disorder so much that she would be “better dead than alive”. Police is still investigating on the killings and a confirmed report shall be released soon.

Where the entire world was embracing fatherhood, this young girl’s long-term disease was severely affecting her. The police report as obtained by CNN, the former nursing student stabbed her parents with a knife, inflicting deadly wounds to her father’s chest and mother’s chest, waist and legs. A residential neighbourhood quickly called the police when the family were not responding to the apartment’s doorbell. As South China Morning Post reported, the 60-year-old man and his 56-year-old wife were found dead and their 23-year-old daughter, Pang Ching-yu was discovered on the scene with a plastic bag over her head which was connected by a long pipe to a helium gas canister. A 30 cm bloodstained knife was later found in the kitchen and the suicide note in Pang’s bedroom.

It was further highlighted by CNN that the young girl posted about her skin condition on an online forum blaming her parents for it. She wrote, “People with eczema giving birth to kids are worse than poor people giving birth to kids.” The post continued, “If you’re poor, you can rely on your own hard work. With eczema, sorry, you have to suffer (your whole life) with no change.” In a recent data, the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) stated that around 30 percent of the population in the United States of America mostly children and adolescents are affected by the condition.

The investigation on the deaths by the police is ongoing and Toxicology examinations would be conducted to understand if the parents were drugged before being stabbed to death. The three had been dead for about 24 hours and all of them were discovered in different rooms inside the apartment. The 23-year-old girl was a former student studying nursing at a tertiary institution.
