A teenager from the United Kingdom had only eaten junk food for at least a decade. His poor eating diet has now made him blind and partially deaf. Identified as 17-year-old Jake in reports, the boy ate only bangers, chips, Pringles, white bread and processed ham. Explained as ‘fussy eater’ by the doctors, the teen said he never liked the texture of other foods which are not junk. Because of a lack of vitamins in his body, his diet damaged a vital nerve which took away his eyesight. Excessive Stress During Exam? Your Junk Food Consumption Could Be the Reason.

Bristol Eye Hospital in England believes the boy’s case to be the first of its kind in the United Kingdom. The researchers have published a detailed report on Jake’s condition. The doctor who treated the teen explained that the lack of vitamins in his diet had caused severe damage to his optic nerve, as reported by Live Science. It connects the eye to the brain, and the 17-year-old was diagnosed with a condition called Nutritional Optic Neuropathy (NON). Such kind of medical situation is mostly seen in Africa and other underdeveloped countries; the report further adds. Jake is suffering from a rare eating illness called Avoidant-Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (AFRID). Attention Moms! Lack of Vitamin B During Pregnancy can Cause Brain Diseases in Babies.

Vitamin B is essential for many cellular reactions and deficiencies can lead to the buildup of toxic byproducts of metabolism and eventually to the damage of nerve cells. Jake’s condition is rare, and the 17-year-old has now decided to encourage people to go for medical counselling the moment they realise they have an eating problem.
