Dhammachakra Pravartan Day or DhammaChakra Anupravartan Din is observed to celebrate the Buddhist conversion of Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. The architect of the Indian constitution along with nearly six lakh followers gave up Hinduism and embraced Buddhism on Ashoka Vijayadashami on October 14, 1956 at Deekshabhoomi. While the observance falls on October 14, it is celebrated on Dussehra and is called Ashoka Vijayadashami. Thousands of Buddhists and Dalits gather at Deekshabhoomi to celebrate the mass conversion every year.
