Chandigarh, Jun 2 (PTI) Haryana Director General of Police B S Sandhu today ordered department officials to ensure maximum deployment of policemen in their respective areas in view of the ongoing agitation by farmers.
Sandhu held a meeting with senior officials, including commissioners of police and SPs in this regard, via a video link.
Reviewing the arrangements put in place to maintain law and order, Sandhu asked the officials to ensure that the supply of essential commodities and amenities are not disrupted.
He asked them to ensure uninterrupted movement of vehicles on national and state highways, according to an official statement.
As part of the 10-day agitation that began yesterday, farmers have stopped supplying vegetables, fruits, milk and other items to cities in protest against the alleged anti-farmer policies of the Centre.
The DGP ordered officers to remain alert and not allow anti-social elements to create any law and order situation. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against those indulging in violence.
Sandhu asked the officers to remain sensitive towards women, particularly minor girls. Police officers on all ranks should take cases of crimes against women with seriousness.
He also reviewed the security arrangements put in place for the Jat Mahasabha held in Jassia.
