Jalna, Aug 13 (PTI) Four persons were arrested in Maharashtra's Jalna city on Tuesday for allegedly trying to extort Rs 1 crore from a woman official of the social forestry department.

Assistant Conservator Vrushali Tambe (30) had lodged a complaint with Sadar Bazar police station here that the accused demanded money from her saying they had evidence that she and another officer had committed irregularities.

Inspector Sanjay Deshmukh said the four allegedly visited Tambe's office on August 9, and threatened that if she did not pay them Rs 1 crore, they will expose her `misdeeds'.

On her complaint, Dilip Bhalchandra Dongre, Ramdas Prahlad Dhabade, Devanand Ghayal and Kashinath Magre were arrested on Tuesday under IPC section 383 (extortion).

Police also recovered the documents which were used for threatening Tambe, a car, four cell phones and Rs 27,000 in cash. Further probe is on.
