Bhubaneswar, Jul 10 (PTI) The Excise Department on Thursday seized silver bars and coins weighing over 1.1 quintal in Odisha's Sambalpur district, officials said.
On suspicion of transportation of ganja, the Excise officials conducted an inspection of a Maharashtra-registered car on the Jharsuguda-Sambalpur Highway and seized the silver bars and coins worth over Rs 1 crore, Sambalpur Deputy Superintendent of Excise, Asit Mallick, said.
The vehicle was en route to Ranchi from Nasik in Maharashtra and the Excise officials intercepted the vehicle at Rengali Jhuripara Square on the Jharsuguda-Sambalpur Highway, another officer said.
Two persons traveling in the car were detained after they failed to produce valid documentation for the silver consignment, he said.
