Gurugram, Jul 11 (PTI) A truck carrying chemical containers caught fire after it lost control and fell into a ditch along the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway on Friday afternoon, police said.

The driver and helper of the truck were rescued with minor injuries and are being treated at a hospital, they said.

The fire was doused by a fire brigade team after about half-an-hour of effort, they added.

The truck was heading to Gurugram from Jaipur.

According to police, while taking a turn to Gurugram from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway at around 1 pm, the vehicle lost balance and fell into a 30-feet ditch.

Due to the impact of the fall, chemicals in the damaged containers caught fire and started exploding.

The police team, which reached the spot, managed to pull out truck driver Saadab and helper Sakil with the help of some people nearby. Both of them had sustained minor injuries and were rushed to Sohna Civil Hospital for treatment.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Devender Siwach said, "We helped extinguish the fire along with the fire brigade team. The traffic was also diverted. Both the injured driver and helper were rescued, they are being treated at a hospital."
