Chennai, Jul 29 (PTI): Palani of Q-Lounge on Monday defeated Sajiv Mathew (Towers Club) by three frames to two in the round of 64 in the Q-Lounge All-India open snooker championship 2019 here.
A match of fluctuating fortunes saw Palani winning the first and third frames and surrendering the second and fourth before easing home in the decider to set up a clash with the India no.2 Laxman Rawat.
Palani won 24-49, 73-21, 66-15, 19-68, 60-27.
In other close matches, Yazer of Q-Ball City beat Sasi Kumar (TNBSA) 3-2 while Vinay Kothari (SVS Club) beat Johny of Cue Zone by a similar margin.
Results: Round 5: Radhesh (YMCA) beat Yashwanth (Cue Zone) 3-2 (64-19, 81-37, 54-62, 24-52, 47-12); Yaser (Q-Ball City) beat Sasi (TNBSA) 3-2 (78-48, 50-69, 56-35, 37-72, 60-49); Hariharan (TNBSA) beat Sameer (Nellore) 3-2 (17-59, 63-52, 53-14, 53-65, 75-44); Hassan (TNBSA) beat Amal (Kerala) 3-1 (38-51, 53-26, 55-34, 62-29).
Hariprabhu (Cue Zone) beat Ashrul (Kerala) 3-2 (38-58, 59-34, 48-60, 43-42, 54-37); Freddy (Q-Lounge) beat Dilip (Cue Zone) 3-1 (80-16, 26-56, 69-30, 54-6).
Round 64: Palani (Q-Lounge) beat Sajiv Mathew (Towers Club) 3-2 (24-49, 73-21, 66-15, 19-68, 60-27); Vinay (SVS) beat Johny (Cue Zone) 3-2 (47-29, 20-46, 67-33, 45-52, 73-36).
