The holiday season has officially begun, which allows brands to create convincing content to sell their products. But distasteful ads will not be sparred! A Christmas advert from exercise bike company, Peloton has been heavily mocked on social media for all the right reasons. The video shows a woman getting an early morning holiday surprise from her husband—an exercise bike. According to reports, the holiday ad for the luxury stationary bike company was released in November, but it took the world by storm and was significantly hate-tweeted that made the ad go viral. People online branded the ad as “sexist” and “dystopian.” From Objectifying Women as 'Late Night Benefits' to Other Sexists Job Ads by Chinese Tech Giants Alibaba, Tencent, Huawei & Baidu. 

Peloton makes exercise gear and provides streaming video service that offers workout tailored to it. The recent ad is a tale of a young wife who record her workouts in an exercise bike which was given to her as a Christmas gift by her husband. As the 30-second commercial progresses, the woman goes to thorough measures to document her Peloton journey. “First ride. I'm a little nervous but excited,” she announces to her phone’s camera. “A year ago, I didn’t realize how much this would change me,” she says adding, “Thank you.”

Netizens have a way of digging up the well-intentioned yet horribly executed adverts. Harsh feedback started to pour online on the company’s YouTube channel and Twitter. They trolled the video calling it a “sexist” and “dystopian” ad.

After receiving too many hate comments, the New York-based company released a statement saying that the advertisement was meant to celebrate a “fitness and wellness journey.” Peloton further added that their commercial was “misinterpreted.” The company’s stock reportedly dipped to 10 percent after the video went viral.
