Pali (Rajasthan) [India], October 11 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Rajasthan's Pali, PP Chaudhary wrote to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday requesting to reschedule the date of the Rajasthan assembly elections citing festivities on that day.

"On one hand it is the responsibility of the Election Commission and all of us to increase the voting percentage. The common people should strengthen the Indian democratic system by taking part in the sacred festival of democracy," Chaudhary said in a letter to the ECI.

"At the same time, organizing voting in Rajasthan on the day of a big festival will directly affect the Election Commission's resolutions on voting awareness," he added.

The Election Commission has fixed November 23 as the date of polls in Rajasthan.

However, the poll date coincides with an auspicious day for the Hindus, 'Dev Uthani Ekadashi' in which thousands of weddings are likely to take place in the state, the BJP MP pointed out.

Chaudhury thereby asked the ECI to consider changing the scheduled date of Rajasthan Assembly Elections from November 23.

The state is likely to witness a fierce battle between the BJP and the Congress with the former trying to unseat the Ashok Gehlot led government from power. (ANI)
