New Delhi [India], May 4 (ANI): A man, wanted in connection with an attempt to murder case and on the run, was arrested following a brief exchange of gunfire near the Ghazipur Paper Market area on Saturday, police said.

The accused has been identified as Avneesh, alias Manish.

Sharing details about the incident, police said that the accused, along with his accomplices, had opened fire on a man in the Harsh Vihar area, following which the police were on the lookout for him.

The person he had opened fire on was injured in the incident and sustained two bullet injuries.

"The Crime Branch received information that Avneesh, accused of firing on a youth in the Harsh Vihar area, was about to reach near Ghazipur Paper Market. Thereafter, the team set a vehicle trap," said the police.

Shortly after Avneesh reached there, he was signalled to stop but he opened fire at the policemen. During the firing, a bullet hit the bulletproof jacket of a policeman. After this, the police in the area fired a bullet in the air and arrested him.

Police said that a case has been registered against the accused in the matter.
