Mumbai, Aug 14 (PTI) An elderly man, his wife and their son were booked for allegedly manhandling and abusing a traffic cop after he stopped their car over seat belt, an official said on Wednesday.

The trio allegedly targeted the complainant, constable Ganesh Sonawane, at Four Bungalows in Andheri on Tuesday, said the official from Versova police station.

Sonawane, attached to the DN Nagar Traffic Division, noticed that a woman in the co-driver's seat of a car was not wearing a seat belt.

When Sonawane asked them to pull over, an elderly man, his wife and son came out and began arguing with the traffic cop.

The accused – Sadhana Anand, Advaik Anand and Kapil Anand – allegedly manhandled and abused Sonawane, who video-recorded their aggressive behaviour, the official said.

They even misbehaved with passersby who urged them not to argue with a policeman. Later, another cop reached the spot and he and Sonawane took the family to the Versova police station.

The three have been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Notices have been served to all three and they will be called to join the probe, the official added.
