New Delhi [India], August 27 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Gujarat government to give a response to former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Sanjiv Bhatt's plea challenging the High Court order in the 1990 custodial death case.
A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Prasanna B Varale issued notice to the Gujarat government on Bhatt's plea against the High Court order.
In January 2024, the Gujarat High Court dismissed Bhatt's appeal against a trial court order and upheld his conviction on various counts of the Indian Penal Code dealing with murder, voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. Bhatt has moved the apex court challenging the High Court's decision.
A Gujarat court in June 2019 sentenced former Sanjiv Bhatt to life imprisonment in the matter of a custodial death case dating back to 1990. (ANI)
