Hamirpur (HP), Feb 24 (PTI) An undertrial prisoner arrested for theft on Friday jumped the wall of the local court in Hamirpur on Friday and escaped, police said.
All the same, his freedom was short-lived and he was re-arrested in the outskirts of the town a few hours later.

The undertrial, who was sent to fourteen days judicial remand by a local court, made his escape on the pretext of wanting to drink water. He went to a water cooler and jumped the court wall, said Additional Superintendent of Police, Hamirpur, Ashok Verma.
According to an official police spokesman, the accused, Subhash, involved in a theft case in 2018 was arrested after a non-bailable warrant was issued in the case. He was accompanied to the court by police and a home guard jawan.

After his escape, police launched a manhunt to apprehend Subhash, who hails from Pucca Bharo area of Hamirpur, and sealed all the exit points.
He was nabbed after 2-3 hours of search near Chowki Jamwala, about four km away from Hamirpur town on Hamirpur-Palampur road, police said.
