Bengaluru, October 5: Ramila Umashankar, Deputy Mayor of Bengaluru has passed away at the age of 44 years after a cardiac arrest, last night. The JDS leader from the Kaveripura ward, who was elected as the deputy mayor is survived by her husband and two children. The news came as a huge shock to her party workers and colleagues as she was very active, when they had met her the last time. Chief Minister Kumaraswamy has expressed his deep shock at the demise of the Deputy Mayor. He said, "Deeply saddened to hear of the demise of Deputy Mayor Rameela Umashankar. She had actively participated with us at the Namma Metro flagging off event just yesterday. She was a dedicated social worker and committed party worker. It's shocking to learn that she is no more with us.”
As per reports, All BBMP offices (except emergency services) will remain closed today (Friday) as a mark of respect.
