Pune, Jul 29 (PTI) A day after a 28-year-old woman and her three children were found hanging inside their house in Bhosri area in Pimpri Chinchwad, police on Monday said the two deceased girls were "sexually assaulted".

The woman and the children, including a boy and two girls, all aged below nine years, were found hanging in separate rooms in the house Sunday afternoon.

Initially, police suspected that the woman hanged the children before killing herself because she was fed up with quarrels with her husband over his unsteady income.

However, the postmortem report has revealed that the girls were sexually assaulted, a Bhosri police station officer said on Monday.

"Police are now in the process of adding related sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO)," he said, adding that the husband of the woman has been detained.

Police are investigating the case from various angles and also put the man under scanner, he said.

While the woman was found hanging inside a room, the children were found hanging from a single hook in another room, police had said.

No suicide note was found in the house.

"The family had recently moved to Bhosri area and has been staying in a rented accommodation," an officer had said.
